It's not surfer's ear if it hasn't been gradually getting worse for a while. More likely there's an infection in the canal. A liquid antibiotic should clear it right up.

no no no no no!! :tut:

take some ibroprofen (sp?) which will get rid of the pain and help with the swelling. Stick some blutak in your ear - dont use the same stuff again whilst you're poorly.

Go and have a surf and have a great time.

Start the antibiotics on Monday.

I think I need to get some ear plugs for next time I'm surfing. Any recommendations?

Not as cheap as bluetac or some of the similar options but I hate the feeling when I get water in my ears and I'm really happy with mine.

They are custom fit, which is a slightly strange experience, never had one come out yet, don't expect to hear much in the line up though.
Only have one pair of ears so decided worth the money.

ear infections and sewage outfalls

Postby market-research » Thu Oct 23, 2008 9:36 am

surfrider foundation has been highly sucessful at stopping sewage ourfalls into the ocean.

Anyone surfing downwind or down current of them used to have chronic ear problems -but to their great credit Surfrider have done so much,

clean oceans also mean clean surfing conditions -that means healthy circumstances in which to surf. (besides other causes)

If you've had an ear infection, you know it's one of the worst things ever - pain, vertigo and no water sports until it's gone. If you've never had one, you never need to.

Dr. Wilbur's ear drops are made with the finest organic and natural ingredients. Just a few drops in each ear when you get out of the water and you can say Adios to ear infections, swimmer’s ear and that uncomfortable "water in the ear" feeling. When you get out of the water, get the water out of your ears.

Also, perfect for the grommets (kids).

These are preventatives only. If you suspect that you already have an ear infection see your doctor immediately - the sooner the better. If you do have an ear infection, he or she will probably prescribe antibiotics that usually alleviate the symptoms in a couple of days. However, always finish your medication course as half-way can mean a re-infection.

Thanks for the information Miguelitos - However, I don't think we are permitted to advertise on here. We made custom made bespoke earplugs designed for watersports and surfing (but I cannot mention thier name) - it may be worth looking us up (just google surfers ear and surfers earplugs) and having a chat about exchanging information on our blogs.
