Milk? who needs milk? In Hawaii you can hunt pigs, pick up fruit and spearfish for free.

Also on Kauai (my only experience of Hawaii) there are wild chickens EVERYWHERE! Do people eat them?

I did notice that people there just left there surfboards out and about, stealing must not be an issue??

I think there is a little of that. When I was a kid older woman would pay us more for a wild chicken then they would for a store bought one because they didn't fall apart when you made soup with them. On the other hand they are so tough you need to cook them for hours before they are eatable. I think most of the surfboards being left out are those of less value or no loss if stolen boards. I do see people leaving wavestorms out and have heard from those who do that they figure no one wants them.

I'm very biased and ignorant on Australia. When I was little, I was told that the toilet water flushes the other way. Skin cancer is common due to thinning of ozone layer. It's the land of criminals as we used to ship them from UK. I didn't know about sharks back then but I know they have gigantic spiders the size of your face. It's also littered wth kangaroos and koala bears. Anything in the wild out there is trying to kill you. It's also a 20+ hour flight and Australia does not have any neighboring countries. Also watched some documentary that the natives just gets high on petroleum products and live in poverty.

That's my imagination of Australia.... wow I can't even believe how stupid I am. No wonder I refuse to go there for holiday when I had the chance.

You know there is an image that surfing is all about the North Shore on Oahu. That all the surfers live there and just jump out of bed and go surfing. It was like that for a while but the pool and warehouse full of boards was never like that except for the rich surfers. Surfboards do grow on trees here. Haven't you ever been here and stayed in a grass hut? The hula girls will serve breakfast in bed. You're missing out. Time for a vacation to Hawaii

BaNZ, you also got the skin cancer, spiders, kangaroos and wildlife correct. Don’t see that many koalas unfortunately, but kangaroos have a tendency to feed on road verges and then leap in front of cars, so can be a real problem.

Of all the Hawaiians I know in New York, they all look like Chinese/Japanese/Asian ? All of them have surfed North shore and said is no big deal, they said it is not big like that all the time on TV. We were planning to go Hawaii for this year surf trip, but we figured we need to go follow our yearly routine to surf with Uncle Billie! Perhaps we will go there in future with baby Banz.

Oahu is an island and there are breaks all the ways around it and good thing too because there are surfers all the ways around it too that roll out of bed and head straight to the break nearby. The North Shore is only big during the winter (usually) and during the summer it may be flat. I once spent the day at Waimea Bay home to some of the most famous big waves there and there weren't even ripples breaking. There were lots of hula girls though and the rock to show off jump off of for fun.

I didn't mention Bunker Spreckles who is the only rich surfer I met briefly who really wasn't independently wealthy but was a trust baby who didn't need to work because he got money from a fund set up to dole him out money. He is an interesting character or was anyway since he has died. There was a movie made about him that is available free on Amazon titled Bunker 77 but yeah that is how these marketing things seem to appear.
