At around 1:16 he asks his wife to call somebody and in the comments apparently the actual guy from the kayak thanks him, because it was the first local call the authorities received. He could have reacted faster, but maybe he just realized what was going on after a while, I don't know..

You're right. I was kind of trying to have fun at that guy's expense. I asked them to remove the post. Oops.

Don't worry! I didn't see it as you having fun at the guy's expense, just thought you didn't notice him saying that in the video :)

Yeah it was listing to the side because it had accumulated gas under it's shell in its coelome so it is like one of those big wave surfers with an inflatable vest and they have pulled the cord. They can't dive under the water because of the extra flotation an the next wave will mow them down but in this case it can't get away from the shark. I think lots of people think turtles are slow and clumsy so watching this turtle it seems normal but in the water sea turtles are quick and graceful and agile. A normal turtle could easily get away from a shark. For a shark to get them they need to be caught by surprise or trapped in a pocket in the reef or sick or injured.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

“All of the sudden I had this forceful jolt from under me. Right about between my fins, my board lifted enough to send me sort of front heavy like when your too far up on your board. I’m a pretty large human and the power was very, very real. I didn’t look around to see what it was and I never made eye contact. I fished and surfed enough to rule out most species but Mr. fluffy himself.”
