New way to film your sessions

Was scoping some surf videos across YouTube and I had been hit with this ad a couple of times https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1t_xJZ9xyA

Went to the website (www.soloshot.com) to check it out, and turns out that the 3rd one is not out yet but up for pre-order at a discount. Trying to see if anyone has had experience with the prior generations and or if you have ordered up the 3rd? Seems like a cool way to gain a different perspective of your surfing. I noticed through their channel they do a lot of work with Brett Barley, just seeing if anyone on here knows more about it.

I'm a little sceptical, the leaving the camera on the beach while I go surfing bit would concern me!
But hey the great film only me selfie machine!
Good possibility for improving technique.
As always your first video of you surfing what you think is a great wave can really shock you!

I think it would be good if you have a non surfing companion happy to sit on a towel on the beach and just keep an eye on the camera. So s/he doesn't have to actually do anything.

Whether or not you have a companion willing to get up at 6am for the dawn surf, who knows...

i wonder if the camera still keeps focusing on you as it's being driven away in the back of some local Bradduh's pick truck in Hawaii ?

Theft was one of my first thoughts as well. After scoping out the specs on their website It says that they do have a couple security features, like a K-lock system, and then you just got to lock the tri-pod to something. Website suggested a "Fixed" object like a lifeguard tower.

I have got the soloshot, but i wouldn't leave it alone on the beach!

But it works perfect if you have someone staying at the beach. A benefit is that the camera always points at you and your girlfriend/ buddies will easily notice you in the lineup.
