The key is to go early and often. Early means before sun up ..Hermosa early will be empty but the surf may be missing as well...

Good luck and welcome to the world of avoiding the crowds!

Definitely Dockweiler. There's plenty of coast up and down towards Playa. Problem is, there may not be good surf there. Good luck.

I hear ya on the crowds and trying to stay out of the way. Weekdays are better than weekends, for obvious reasons. I've been trying to get up and out around 6 in MB, and it hasn't been too bad. Rats/Torrance has been ok around that time too, and it seems pretty newbie-friendly.

what about OC? I'm new to surfing also.

I actually live in West Hollywood, but I hear the water is somewhat warmer in OC. Is that true? I'm a panzy for the cold.

Get down to Hermosa.

OC is awesome for surf also, won't be much warmer.

Huntington, awesome.
