Santander/San Sebastian

Postby Rlovatt » Mon Apr 28, 2025 3:17 pm

Hi there,

I am flying into Santander with my 12 year old son at the end of May from the UK.

I was planning on trying bodyboarding/surfing with him around Santander/San Sebastian.

Any advice on where to get lessons? areas etc?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

There are quite a few surf schools/ board hire places I don’t know the better ones but google surf schools santander, san sebastián,
You could also try having a blast body boarding in the patrolled swimming areas where you could be doing it together.
BY your request I am assuming you don’t have lot of surf experience so the school idea for board riding is probably the better idea, as the patrolled area body body leaves you both more to your own resources.

Under no account try surfing of either type on unpatrolled beaches or out side a school, -

Just pick safe and fun , have a blast :D

Thanks for the advice. This was pretty much my plan.

Safety is a concern for me. How dangerous is it even in the patrolled areas? Any tips on how to stay safe?

Cheers

What are your swimming capabilities, do you have any beach and seaside awareness? Can you recognise rip currents and know how to respond to them?
A good basic learning would give you a program of understanding beach behaviour and dangers , the instructors should be surf instructor certified and give a good share or time with each student , not just the pretty girls!!.
A simple rule, IF YOU DON’T FEEL SAFE; DON’T GO OUT!!!! That is for both you and your son……… a patrolled area is not a guarantee of total safety , so check and remember simple rule!!
