i want to buy a board there and take it with me home to norway after two weeks. is there a big difference on what board i need in Bali and in Norway. i`m ca 1,80m and 73kg. thinking about a 7`10" mini-mal after reading around on the forum/internet.

Wow a contrast in water temperatures to go home to!
Kuta to the Tromso surf coast, I would consider something 8ft o 8ft 6‘‘ but I suggest buying the board in Europe, Airlines can charge dearly for transporting Surfboards and the longer to more costly and they can treat surfboard badly in transit.
There are many very good surfboards brands available, one brand you can try in Bali and buy in Europe are the Torq boards.

There are good shapers in Bali but there’re quite a few Junk boards too, good for one season and then dead.
A thought to consider, in Bali with the great weather, board shorts and anti sun sun and rash shirt paddling is easier, Norway, paddling through your wetsuit much harder so a long board makes some of the difference.
BTW the Mini mal shape is a great shape to learn on! Try hiring a number of boards with different lengths, it will give some insight!
HEY and severely less crowds in Norway

You are going in the shoulder season to Bali, so the surf may be a little less dramatic,
If you are considering buy post a picture here first and we will help you choose, and we have several forum members in Bali who might give you further advice
Have a great time,

Just did a browse for Norwegian surf board shapers, there are 4 companies that look good even an Australian shaper ( i looked at their catalogs)
Adhd surfboards, Frost surfboards, Infusion surfboards and Lofoten surf centre .
Have browse before you go!

Bali has some hectic breaks, and some beginner breaks too. I learned on a 6'10 minimal but back then I was pretty athletic and abot 82kgs the dims were 6'10 x 21 x 2 5/8 .. I learned on the higher tides that werent as hollow.

its stressful sometimes buying a board in bali, travel is difficult, unless you. riding a scooter around which is fun.. book a few lessons at the surf schools there.. they cheap as it gets and you'll learn much quicker than doing it yourself.. unless you have a mate to teach you.

where in bali are you staying

Surf schools are the way to go and often with a range of different size boards to try, there are often hire shops on the beach Kuta and OldMans.
Take serious look at the traffic, there are too many accidents to tourists on scooters, and there are police scams to get money from international scooter riders. There are cheap drivers to get you to the beach you just need to agree on a price before you go!

IMO the same board type is best for an adult beginner your no matter where you learn and that board is a basic longboard at least 9’ long. You will never outgrow a longboard, can have a place in your quiver forever and will make learning a bit easier, expanding all margins over what a smaller board will give you and allow you to focus on the basics.

Look at fees and restrictions for the airlines you’ll fly. They vary and might influence your choice.

A board of decent quality worth bringing back to Norway will be cheaper here but not by much.

If you do decide to buy a board send me a dm and I’ll put you on to which shapers and shops can best set you up.

Enjoy your trip and don’t let shopping take too much time away from it.

Walking the dog now; this is a special place, have a great time!!
