Long term: South of Europe vs Canary Islands

Postby Teahupo » Mon Jun 17, 2024 8:07 am

Hello,

I'm requesting advises from those of you familiar with Canary Islands or the south Atlantic coasts of Portugal and Spain.

Context:
I want to permanently move to a foil friendly location in the south of Europe.
I am an EU citizen and I'm working remotely, so no visa and labor market considerations.

My criteria:
- Nice surf / foiling environments (regular swell and waves, but not too big)
- No crowd - I dislike traffic jam, crowd on the beach, parking, water, restaurants
- Nice natural outdoor environment with hikes, walks, beaches, landscapes
- I don't care about urban life, I don't go to pubs/clubs, I prefer a beer and picnic on the beach
- Overall quality of life (value for money, sunny weather, safety)

I have shortlisted a few locations:
- Spain Canary Islands Lanzarote
- Spain Canary Island Fuerteventura
- Portugal Alentejo (southwest coast), around Sines, Milfontes
- Portugal Algarves (south coast), around Faro
- Spain Andalusia Atlantic coast (Cadiz?)

Any advice and feedback on these locations will be highly appreciated!

Cheers
