India?

Postby mg100 » Mon Jan 21, 2019 7:55 am

Anyone on here ever surfed in India?
Just reading a few bits on the internet and some of the spots look pretty decent?

I travel there on business, have to visit soon again.
I am normally up in Delhi but flights down south are only around $100 so thought of doing a quick 3 day trip and make the most of being there, maybe Varkala.

The time you go will determine what sort of swell, gets in, SW same as Indo but a little more little swell decay.
You can rent boards in Varkala, a Nd there are guiding services, worth a chance! You might score and be the first to add to Surfing Waves Spot map and information ( please for those that follow, but if you are shown a secret spot, let it remain under the radar!)

Jaffa’s call on this , I’d go I d rent a board, clunker or not and hit whatbwas on offer!

I would make sure that you have all the vaccines. I heard it is not very hygienic there.

There's no surf in India. You should go to Bali. :D <= Humor.

ALL the vaccinations, if you are surfing river or run off water in the surf, the works of disease hangs out there.
Eye wash and ear clean. Don't swallow.
Typhoid typhus, malaria, cholera, hepatitis etc , check what your doctor advises!
Beware he mosquito borne diseases too!

ah, ok. I just know that many westerners visit india with a thought of 'maybe I can grab some surf while i'm there' and end up completely overwhelmed by the fantastic chaos of India and never ever think about surfing, there is just so much else to do. However, if you are a regular visitor you will know all of this.

Jaffa has given some info. I've never surfed there but have a good friend who travelled much of the world surfing and he surfed a lot in India, mostly in the Andaman Islands. Which he both loved and hated; he was doing it sort of on the cheap and 'cheap' in India is, well, not particularly luxurious. He also liked Kerala.

So Kerala is a good place to head and Varkala looks really nice for a relaxing time, probably wont give you life changing waves but thats fine. I wouldnt bother with Goa, the foreigners have turned that into a bit of an aggressive surfing area. Vizag/Visakhapatnam is also meant to be good.

Sounds like fun.
