Rookie with a plan to hit the road (Europe)

Hey all good vibe ninjas!

I am a rookie surfer - meaning that from time to time I am able to catch a 'green' wave, but nothing more than that.

As I am having the longest summer break, I was planning to throw a massive trip and as recently I fell in love in surfing, I was thinking about connecting those two ideas.


The route I am planning is the entire north shore of France, Spain, Portugal and perhaps even Morrocco. Just travelling from one surf-spot to another without hurry with a lot of time to enjoy the vibe.

The biggest problem which I have is the fact, that I do not have any buddy to join me on such a trip. I do not see a bigger problem in this very fact, as I am an extrovert, I do not have bigger problems with finding some company - but because of this I am not able to decide upon the mode of transportation.

The trip is supposed to happen in the highest season (start on July) so my first idea was to use car and sleep in a tent. This mode of transportation is the cheapest one - as I could buy my own equippment and diminish the costs by not renting boards / wetsuits and hostels. On the other hand I am a bit affraid of it, as I really want to meet crazy amount of people and experience this trip to the greatest extent possible. By choosing this mode I am affraid that I will end up deserted for most of my trip.

The other idea was to hitch-hike / use public transportation and crash at the surfcamps. This option guarantees meeting a lot of people - but is more expensive and also takes off some of the 'freedom' granted by the car.

What do you think about my ideas? Is car the better idea or is it just better to pack my life into a backpack and use the service of the surfcamps?
