Surfing Waves

Hi everyone!

I will be staying in Cocoa Beach (apartment right at the pier) from December 9th until December 16th.
I would love to get some insight on the spots in this area.
What are the recommended tide times to go surfing?
Can I rent decent boards from RonJon's or some other store around Cocoa Beach?
Should I be worried about currents?
Full 3/2 should do, right?
Off-topic: Best food/drinks/crowd?

Mike, i can quickly answer some of your questions. Also, please search our forum and you will fimd quite a few posts about surfing at Cocoa.

1. General insight: mellow area. Not good surf compared to California, but plenty fun. My fave wave in Cocoa is on south side of pier

2. the recommended tide times to go surfing is when tide is coming in and when going out.

3. You can easily rent decent boards from Ron Jon's or Cocoa Bech Surf Company. Both are located within walking distance to aforementioned pier.

4. Little to no need to worry about currents. The Atlantic is mild and gentle around FL. Currents are.nothing like NJ, NorCal, or OR.

5. A Full 3/2 should be more than adequate. When I visit Cocoa, I surf without wetsuit, even in January. This is possible for me because I live in cold-ish water region and used to live in cold water region. Plus, I like cold.water.

6. Can't help much with Best food/drinks/crowd. But, if you pass through Orlando and love oysters, rhen you must go to the "dive" oyster bar known as Lee's & Rick's. I ate a bucket of raw oysters there last week and this is their 67th year. Well worth it!
