Canary Islands in January

Hi all,

I'm thinking of travelling to the Canary Islands in March to learn how to surf. After a bit of research Famara on Lanzaote sounds like a pretty good place to go as a beginner. Does anyone have any experiences of there in January? Too rough at that time of year? I'm a strong swimmer and have surfed/body boarded a few times before so being battered some waves and some currents doesn't bother me too much.

Or are there any other beaches on the Caranry Islands someone could recommend?

Cheers!
Scott

Hi :)
Canary Islands are really great to learn how to surf.
I haven't been on all Islands. Mainly on Gran Canaria.
January is the best Season for amazing and big waves (but also small waves ^^)
The two times I visited in January it has been nice weather and not too rough :)
( I think it is the smae with the other Islands.

Famara does pick up a lot of Swell, so can be pretty chunky indeed

I was on Fuerteventura in March, waves were good for beginners/intermediate, water was very cold though. Be sure to bring a very thick wetsuit, as rental quality can be low.
