Brazil Surf Trip

I'm traveling to Brazil for 8 weeks (Dec26-Feb20) and I bought tickets going to Florianopolis and returning from Rio de Janeiro. Just realized there's not much swell during this time. Did I do wrong? Should I go North East instead?
