I just decided tonight Im going to Indo to surf

Postby torrancesurfer » Wed Mar 06, 2013 8:41 am

Hi all,

After reading and watching all these surf videos, I came to the conclusion that I want to pick up and go to Indo in a few weeks... Im sick of crowded, closeout socal beach breaks... so im going.

Where do you guys recommend I go if these are my priorities (highest to lowest)

1. Lefter - im goofy :)
2. Intermediate level waves, with a relatively easy paddle
3. Less than 6 foot waves, or 2M
4. Consistent in April / May
5. Good accommodations close by

I looked a little and found quite a few surf tours but they all have a 10 night minimum. Whats up with that? I was thinking just going 2 or 3 days, do y'all know of a surf tour that has lower minimum stays? I don't mind breaking the bank a little and paying more, just cant spend $3000USD to go for a week and a half!

Thanks so much for the help!

Cheers

Torrance,
Indonesia in April May is the land of the epic left there are also some that fit your bill, I would look at the lefts at Medewi west of Kuta and Denpassar it's in the country and there are cheap hotels and homestays nearby.
That can be quite cheap basic accommodation with some meals provided.

A good stay is at Heaven on the Planet on Lombok it runs at about $150 Australian per day all meals provided and a walk down 365 steps to a good left hander Inside Ekas it's at your level

Inside Ekas 2.JPG
it can get bigger but it is a softer wave than elsewhere .
Grupuk in Lombok also has left handers, Bali is ridiculous as far as crowds go now so the options of Lombok or out to Medewi are your best bets both have stay by day prices and walk to the break.

You too can look like this after many Indo trips

Plan for that longer board I was talking about in your other thread, you'll need it at your level, but it will be a great experience.

About 5ft just a little below head high, the right is a punchier wave than the left the left is longer, a longboard type wave. I go back love it :D

Jaffa,

Thanks again for your awesome reply. Not sure I will ever look that cool after surfing :) Im guessing that stud in the picture is you Jaffa? I did some heavy research and this looks absolutely perfect. But it looks like other travel plans are going to get in the way for April :( Good news is that I will be going to Thailand, I guess the waves are not nearly as good though... and swells don't come in untill late April. O well, don't really have a choice. Im going to make another indo trip separately...

Lombok looks like my kinda spot, gorgeous, doesn't seem too crowded. Only thing is the tickets out there seem a bit rare / expensive. Im looking on kayak.com http://www.kayak.com/#/flights/LAX-LOP/ ... 2013-04-23 Apparently it will take me 41 hours to get back home lol! Do you fly direct or take a boat over here.

Medewi is legit... I think this will be the spot... its a left, great balance between accessible and also not crowded. Bali seems cool to visit too. in a few months round trip ticket to Denpassar is about 1100 with 150 a night for food and living, anyone wanna go lol

There are ferries to Lombok that dock at Sengiggi, if you book a package at Heaven they will pick you up, the ferries can interesting can take 3 to 5 hours if it's the slow one and there can sometimes be fast sea cats , but it changes. You can also book Merpati in Bali, other flights to Lombok and other flights in Indonesia are eras suspect!

Medewi may be your bet, long flight from LAX.
Indonesia is Australia's Hawaii six hour flight from the east coast :D

Check out online Bali on any budget it's for Aussie advice but there is lots of information re accommodation.
Also look at buying Indonesian surf and lingo it's a book to buy for any first timers.

You can get it as an e book!
