Brand new surfer in UK - where to surf?

Postby kate123 » Sat Jun 25, 2011 12:52 pm

Hi guys!

I'm brand new to surfing but after moving to Cornwall, UK for University (originally from North East UK) and seeing the fun to be had with it, me and my bf have decided to give it a go this summer. We've got boards etc and are going on holiday to Wales and are staying right near Porth Neigwl / Hell's Mouth. We want to go surfing there (it will be our first time and neither of us have had a lesson, we're both pretty competent swimmers and can bodyboard/snowboard/skateboard etc...unsure just how much this will help though!). What I really wanna know is, is this a good place for beginners? I've done some research and from what I've seen I think it might be alright, I'm just looking for some advice really!

And if that isn't suitable for beginners could anyone tell me somewhere nearby that is? Or any general tips for surfing beginners would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot, and happy surfing!
Kate :)

Just head to a solid beach break without strong rips. Northern Wales waves are quite fickle though, especially in summer.
