You'll need to get off the beaten (surf) track to find uncrowded spots. There's plenty of them along the coast, but if you're surfing the Gold Coast, for example, you won't be surfing alone...

If you're travelling North to South, starting at the Sunshine coast, you can turn left and surf almost anywhere until you get to Melbourne. For surfing alone, central coast and south coast NSW is a good bet - plenty of spots and no people! 8)

However, do take some time to surf at the Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Gold Coast, Byron, and Sydney... absolutely jam-packed with crowds, but worth trying to get a wave or two for the vibe. Leave your impatience and frustration at home though
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

Pretty much anywhere south of Wollongong will be more or less uncrowded (less than 10 people out except if the waves are very good; often only 2 or 3 or just you). If you are planning to get that far south let me know and I'll give some more info. Are you looking for just surfing or other stuff as well?

You will really appreciate having your own transport, although between Brisbane and Sydney there are reasonable bus/backpacker ways to get around. South of Sydney not so much
