Fikiri, notdürftig about your terminology on this question.
Usually just removing the fin should be enough!
But not sure what you mean by the fin plate ?
If it’s the plugs or box that the fin slots into, that stays in the board.

Why not post a picture of your fin system then we will all know and be able to talk about the same thing! :D

If its the screw plate for a single fin, i usually take mine out with the fin. The older Fins Unlimited (early 70's?) had a permanent plate before the middle channel was widened, to make the plate removable. On the newer one's I end up loosing the screw plate eventually, if i dont take it out with the fin.

I‘ve always called the plate a nut , but whatever the name I always take it out and I have a bolt and a plate/ nut screwed lightly together left in every fin that way I never have to search

Why do remove the fin? Just for the convenience of storage? Or is there any other reason?

For me I always remove the long fin. Simply because it fits better in the car so it doesn't hit the headliner or the windshield. I hate doing that though. My other older board I just strap it on the roof and don't care. But air pollution got to it and the board is black as a charcoal.

So say it's okay to leave the plate in the board, what do you do with the screw ?
