Our deal: we live in Colorado (husband and I) taking a trip in mid July for 4 days (NOT holiday weekend) to San Diego. Mostly to surf. Looking forward to a little nigthlife as well. We have a boat and go to the lake almost every weekend June-October. We wakesurf, without the rope, do a few tricks too. Cool, but we desire to have the real experience of surfing...and certainly expect some of the new skills with real waves to transfer over to improve our wakesurf. And of course, not be a kook.

We are both very athletic, fit, ski moguls, run, road bike, etc. Husband did lessons before in Hawaii, but advanced past the really long board pretty quickly, and felt like he couldn't advance to the next level.
Where in San Diego should we get lessons?
what beach do they teach on?
Are waves somewhat reliable that we would get to surf a little over 3 full days even if there is a bad day with no waves?
will that allow us to get some good waves, and also respect and stay out of expert surfers way?
does the shop rent the boards to us so we can work on it again in the afternoons if the waves permit?
does the shop have a few sizes of boards so we can trade up boards as we advance?
am I being too optimistic? lol.
then, once you point us to the right surf shop, where should we arrange accommodations? (ease of getting to beach and walking distance from night life are priority over 'ritz') open to all ideas from hotel to motel, to bed & breakfast.
thank you in advance for reading, considering responding, and input or 2 cents you pass our way. I've been researching the internet and talked to 5-6 surfer shops so far, but of course they all say they are the best and the best beach and have the best waves, and the best training way, etc. (can't blame them, business is business) shoot it to me straight, who should we hire?
kindly,
SeaShelley
