Sunset Beach and San O Surfer

Postby rachellysuon » Thu Jun 18, 2020 5:59 pm

Hi all,

I’m brand new to the forum and looking forward to some tips and feedback from here on out. I’ve been surfing for just about 10 months, consistently, and have a wavestorm, 7’8” Jacks Surfboard and just picked up a 9’0” Robert August “What I Ride” for a steal. I tried to take out the big center fin earlier and when I put it back in, I noticed it was very loose towards the front. It was tighter towards the back, but still wiggly. Is that how it should be?

Hi, welcome. I have that same problem with some of my single fins being too loose in the Fin Box. It should not be wiggly. My solution has been to wrap some tape around the base of the fin to give it some additional thickness until it fits snug. As a quicker fix I've also taken a piece of cardboard (from a box of wax) and wrapped a small piece around the base of the fin. The point is that it should be snug. You want the tip of the fin to move side to side only as much as the flex of the fin will allow.

Hello fellow San O surfer! San O will become my local break in about a month time and welcome to the forum!

I had the same issue with my last board, I can't remember who gave the advice here. But basically take a straw from Mcdonalds and split it then pad it between the fins! You definitely don't want it to wobble as it will get looser over time.
