Hello from Bali...

Postby Big H » Wed May 27, 2015 3:30 pm

I came across this section and thought I'd introduce myself...

Been living in Indonesia for the past 10 years....the last 4 in Bali. I have US citizenship though I've lived outside of the country for more of my adult life than in. I'm 185cm / 83kg for whatever that might be worth. Last year I finally decided to try surfing and got hooked...started to go nearly every day which brings me to now. I was a late starter; 43 when I took my first (and last) lesson in Kuta. One of the things that I like about the thing is sorting it out on my own, along with books, videos and general internet scouring. I have a longboard that I really enjoy; 9'6" with a good amount of rocker which works in much bigger stuff than I would have thought 6 months ago...I also have some shorter boards that I rotate around with....it's all good fun....when I played golf before when I lived in Jakarta....course next to work and I went out about as much as I surf now (4-6 days a week)... I had 9 drivers and 4 full sets, something like 11 putters and 14 wedges....equipment junkies love to tinker....surfing took the place of golf and my fitness is definitely the better for it....and my wallet for that matter.

Where I surf: I recently discovered the north coast and have been making my way up to Canggu once or twice a week...the other days I stay down here around home, either Nusa Dua to Pandawa or Dreamland - Balangan. As a lurker I've picked up alot from the gurus here on the site already; looking forward to more insights.

Cheers!

The photo is one of my spots (not me in the photo thought)....small that day but there were some waves just off the frame...

Dammit, someone that can boast about warmer water than me!

I've got friends in Bali that surf the same spots, so when I get round to visiting them, you might find me next to you in the line-up 8)
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

The water is starting to cool down my way, dipping under 20 degrees

I don't know how you put up with it, I honestly don't

It's meant to be summer here! No one's bothered to tell Mother Nature though.
