Hi Mike here from the north Cornish coast….. More into bodyboarding these days, but still like to get out on the stand-up every now and again…. (Mainly when its big)..
Lived over in OZ for three years from 2000 to 2003..spent most of my time there looking for waves and trying not to work. Ended up driving from bay to bay which took us all the way around and then some…
Did the indo trip on the way home for a couple of months which was the best days I had in the water…

Back in England at the end of 2003 and lived down here in Newquay for three years, which was a good time , but work was hard to come by…(Good party town)
So now where up the coast a bit in a quite village not to far from the sea where the waves can awesome when the swell is good and not to many emits about…

Anyway that’s me …Say hello if you like, but don’t drop in on the bodyboarder !!!!!

Hi mike,
I just saw your local spot pictures and it looks like you're near a decent break. Was it the east coast of Oz?
Welcome to the site, it's always good to have new members contributing.

Hey Mike

Nice to have a new member,
My opinion: bodyboarders are also welcome ;), my brother is a bodyboarder too and I agree it isn't "nice" to drop in on a bodyboarder
So welcome to the site and we are looking forward to hear more from you soon

Cheers

Hey wide-mouth-mike,
Is your name associated with lil' Mickey's Wide Mouth Malt Liquor? They have funny little green bottles! Haven't drank one of those in 25 years (and for good reason).

Thanks for the warm welcome...I've had a good look around the site and theres some good info on here...Hope i can add to this..
Been surfing for nearly 30 years now on and off.Just starting to teach my two girls to surf hence the bodyboarding..Its easyer to stay close to them with a bodyboard with out the fear of giveing them a knock.Still get out there on the shortboard when the waves are pumping.

Normally surf in and round Bude here in north Cornwal... Widemouth bay being my nearest beach, but it does get busy in the summer months,,so head up to duckpool and welcome to get away from the emmits..

Hi surf-patrol,,, Great site... The Oz trip was only ment to be a three month hoilday, but ended up there for three years...Started up in Cairns and went north up to Cooktown.Nice part of the world but no waves,so head south.
Didn't get any surfing done untill we hit the sunshine coast and bought a old ford falcon in Noosa and my first board of the trip..
Then it was driving, working where we could and checking out the bays and small towns down the coast.
Surfed all the way down the cost to Melbourne>Some long drives though national parks with the worst dirt roads in the world to find some of the best most challageing waves ever..
This took best part of a year and all the money i had.
Realy wanted to go to Taz but the money had gone and needed to find some work.
Ended up driving to Adelaide to get work in vin yards picking wine grapes...good money and good waves..Victor harbour was about a hours drive south and had some good waves down there. We lived just outside Morphett vale for 8 months so had the pick of that part of the cost.mainly surfed the hump and y steps...
Then it was the big drive over west stopping in at Anxious bay and then onto Cactus bay...WOW is all that can be said about that..Only surf six times in four weeks as it was big.

I will add to this when i get a bit more time as the west cost of Oz was the best....

Cheers.......

Sounds like an amazing trip, don't suppose you've got any photos of some of those waves?

Here's the old Falcon with my girl sat aboard.Loved that car and girl.still with her today 14 years on. Did over 65,000 km in it with only a blow out tyre of a break down..Sold it for a 1000 dollers more than we paid after ragging the backside out of it for three years..

Little wave on the great ocean road under the big rocks... Only two of us went out and some realy sweet waves..

Thanks for posting the pics - I have an almost identical one of the Margaret River one. Shame about the lost pics. I bet that Falcon is still going round the country packed full of backpackers
