Sand In My Wax

Postby Johno » Tue Sep 05, 2006 8:36 am

When i put my first coat of wax on my new board i got sand stuck in it, should i remove the sanded wax and build up a new clean surface of wax or does it not matter?

depends how energetic you are...i sometimes just leave it, but if i've got the time, energy and motivation, i'll try and get a fresh coat on and take the old stuff off. I'm ashamed of my minimal at the moment, the wax on it is old and dirty and an embarrasment...

Also, remember that after you finish surfing, then take your leash off and wrap it round and whatever, then you should take your board back down to the water and give it a good wash, you know...then walk straight off the beach and don't put your board down in the sand!!

You know when you havnt got enough wax on your board 'cos youl keep sliding off when standing up, i say the more the better-start by putting a whole bar on then just add as'n'when.

The question is - how much sand?

If it's not a lot, just put more wax over it. If you dumped a bucket on, then waxed over it, then scrape it off.

A little bit of sand never killed anyone.

why is there wax on your rail in the first place? your supposed to put it under where you feet will go.

waxing the rails will cause drag :? that depends on how close you took it e.g have you waxed the side of the rails to the base? i dont reccomend this.

I also wax the part of my rails where my hands go when I pop up and Duck Dive. I cant imagine not having the wax on my rails, I slip otherwise.

Just making sure i have seen some boards with wax right underneath

Actualy that might explain why i find it nearly impossible to duckdive my 7.4 its not that i find t hard just too much slippage - im gonna try that

Wax on the rails does give you extra grip, I have no problem griping my 7.9 when trying to duck dive a big wave, i know i'm being a tart but i just don't like the grity feeling on my palms

Waxing your rails isn't a kook thing to do... i live in san clemente, have been surfing all my life, and go to the school with the number one surf team in the world... and the only people kooking it out there are on fun boards with no wax at all

er der! wax gives your feet extra grip so why is it a bad thing to wax the rails and give your hands more grip?

When paddling out i got hit and washed up by a 6 foot wave and i still had a good grip of my board

if the board is not waxed at all a shop owner told me this:
put about half of the base coat. Do this before you leave. Once you get their put on one or two layers of the other coat. The first one will take long so i wouldnt waste valuable surfing time on waxing.
