Advice on rail crack repair

Looking for advice on this rail crack repair on an NSP epoxy board. The crack is about 8 inches (20cm) and it seems like the glass on either side is not flaking off anymore after initial sanding (pics below are after sanding). I looked up a couple different methods for this type of repair:

1. Place a layer of resin as it looks currently, and try to push an initial layer of sanding resin into the crack, then sand down a bit and layer fiberglass sheets over the top of that

2. Open up and dig out the crack and create a V-shape trough before filling with resin, then place the fiberglass

Any thoughts or advice on the best method for this repair? Thank you!

Hey! For this type of crack, I would recommend method number 2 – open up the crack, remove any loose bits, and create a V-shaped trough. This allows for better resin absorption and gives a stronger repair. After filling with resin, make sure to layer fiberglass over the top.

Just make sure to sand everything thoroughly before adding more layers. It’s important for the resin to have the best possible adhesion to the board.

I have refrained from commenting because the sanded area doesn't look like the construction I am familiar with. I suspect they used a different process than what I am used to.
