Where should I put the traction pad on a mini gun?

Where should I put the traction pad on a 7' mini gun? I know I should put it right on top of the leash plug.
I included a picture.

if you took a template of the set up of your fin plugs, the middle fin is about where you would place the the back of the pad on the deck , not over the the leash plug, the back of the pad applies the drive centre fin! :D
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷

Oh alright, I'll just put it right on-top of the leash plug. I thought you had to put it up more since you wanted more speed.

That is why it is so very important to learn the basic of speed and speed control on a long(er) board before going to short(er)boards. Pumping for speed on a mushy wave trying to make sections VERSUS moving up to get the board to plane better on a steep barrelling wave are two different things.

Btw, did you check the width of the traction pad you have ( or intend to purchase ) ? That pin tail is very narrow. Your traction pad shouldn't go "outside" of the lap line.

This is the tail of my 7’ pintail. The perspective is from above but there is actually about an inch from the edge of the leash plug to the semi circle of the pad. Closer than that and you risk having the cord tear and peel up the pad. I got the most narrow pas in the shop and still had to trim it down with knife & scissors before installing so as to stay off the laps like WKK said.

Actually on the board im forward if the pad quite often; main reason for having it for me is as a tactile reference, can feel where I am on the board and as a toehold for duck diving.

Geezer, great advice I only have a fcs traction pad for high performance shortboards.
It's fits ok but I'm gonna trim it.
