Can boat PU resins be used on surfboards?

Postby Olo294 » Sat Oct 16, 2021 3:17 am

Hi all,
Just got half a tin of norglass polyester finishing resin off a mate and I’m wondering if this would be fine to fix up an old board?

This is my first experience with surfboard repairs so have pretty much no knowledge on the topic however have worked with fibreglass in the past, my main concern is that is resin may not be designed for high stress situations or that it is some kind of deck finisher.

It is under finish coats on the norglass site and is the northane gloss pack so if anyone has time any help would be much appreciated!

I tried to look up Norglass polyester finishing resin and couldn't find anything. However if it is polyester resin then it should be okay for a finishing coat on a polyester resin board. The finishing coat in just for the shine and not expected to be strong just flexible. the question is if it will bond with surfboard resin under it. I am not sure if anyone can give you that answer here
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
