HELP! lost my fin box! No shaper will help me local

Postby fatgirlsurfs » Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:39 am

Hi all

Basically I've only had this board a month or so and the fin box got cleanly ripped out and is unfortunately lost at sea. The board is closed cell foam core/2 x wood stringers/HD PE Slick/HD EBS deck. If I buy a fin box do you think the best way to repair is to use epoxy resin and fibreglass sheet or has anyone got any advice whatsoever! It's my first board and was really enjoying using it and getting out there!

Thanks in advance!

Hi FGS that‘s a drag with your board, just went looking for the board specs to see what advice can be offered, can you post pictures of the other fin boxes and another one of the logo or brand name.
You are on the right track with epoxy resins, and other will dissolve to,foam, catastrophe on disaster! :D
Post the pictures more advice will come! :D

It sounds like you have a sponge soft board. Is the "fin box" held on with a plastic screw from the top of the deck ?

Thanks for the replies guys! I didn't give much info really doh! its a surfworx 9ft ribeye made by alder, rang them and they had no advice and no spare parts. I was half thinking of converting it to an FCS system if I could fill in the hole a bit :? Thanks!!

The exact same thing has happened to mine this week and I don't recall hitting anything. Have emailed alder but no response yet . It seems a very weak connection to the board

Called in there yday and they've had a few back with same problem. The box is being replaced with a custom bolt through system and all future boards will have these.

Hi there, this exact issue just happened to my ribeye today :(
Wondering if you made any progress on the issue with Alder, given its clearly a known fault with these boards.
