Twin plus trailer reccomendations

Postby Prancing monkey » Sat Nov 14, 2020 7:16 pm

Getting a 6,2 winged swallow tail early next year, fin set up as a twin plus trailer (fcs2). I tried MRs in a previous 5 fin board but found they lacked a bit of drive compared to tri carvers. In the same board I put in the xxl asher pacey shapers, which have speed to burn but tricky to turn (quite a bit larger than the MRs). I do wonder if the fin placement, using the thruster side boxes, impacted the performance of the MRs. Would like to get the smaller asher pacey set but sold out here in UK. Current options here in UK seem to be AM twin, MR, or power twins,.... Occasionally the captain fin especial surfaces....other option is to get an upright twin set and use the stabi from my asher pacy set

I like the MR fins.. i find them to be more drivey than pivot.. i ride them on a rocket wide, or a pu board similar.. haven't ridden over 4 foot though, but will do soon..

Using the thruster side boxes might have thrown off the feel of the MRs a bit. It could be worth a shot if you're leaning towards the AM twin or MR since the Asher Pacey set is complex to come by.

Have you thought about checking out second-hand options? I've found some excellent deals on barely used gear that way. I even got a great deal on a car once, and my family picked up a trailer from https://www.boomandbucket.com/equipment/trailers. It's worth checking out!

I have a couple of twins that are set up for 2+1; box locations, cants and toes as well as distance to tail and placement relative to each other are all different than a thruster set up. 2+1’s and some twins work ok in thruster set ups but compared to a board with boxes cut to ride as a twin it’s just different and not as good. But I’m no pro and changing fins changes the feel of a board and different but not quite as good can be enjoyable especially if it is a board you like alot.

That said I like MR 2+1 and Futures T1 2+1 sets. I have a couple sets of fiberglass fins with templates I don’t know what they are that are made locally that work fine too.
