Board Shorts Rash

Postby the.ronin » Fri Aug 15, 2008 7:43 pm

I finally got around to replacing my tried and true but seriously old Oneills. I picked up a pair of Quiksilvers thinking that technological changes must make these things super comfortable now. Yeah right. By my second session I had the most annoying rash. I wasn’t growing elephantitis balls or anything but it was enough so that it hurt to surf!! WTF?!

I poked around on the interwebs and found that it’s normal – thankfully. I thought I might had gotten some funny bacteria. I hate wearing anything under the board shorts but I tried boxers and even those athletic spandex dillies and still got chafed!!

I finally built up the guts to ask a dude at a surfshop and he recommended the “stretchy” board shorts. Didn’t even know they existed. Picked up a pair of Oneill Super Freaks ... WOW. So comfortable and so far so good surfing commando again. I love these things.

Woah.. I didnt know about those either but just looked them up cause I've been wanting some new boarshorts as well. As it is now, I wear these old short shorts swim trunks underneath my boardshorts.. and that's a pain.

I think I may look into picking some of these Superfreaks up. Sound real cool according to the online shops.

Dave, it's not just Oneill that has em though. All the other major brands seem to have their own stretchy shorts. The Superfreaks just came recommended.

Oh okay. Nice.. So is it just a stretchy inside liner? Or the whole top band is stretchy? Or... :?:

the superfreaks i think were one of the firsts that were stretchy. all of the material is stretchy. i got a pair of ergophobia (i didn't even know it was a company, but i won em in a raffle) shorts that are stretchy. super comfy, dry quick, and generally better than average boardshorts

No inside liner, Dave. The whole thing is stretchy material - band, panels, everything. That actually brings up a good point. Definitely try them on before you buy them. I got the size I normally get and I think they ride loose because they are stretchy.

^ oh yeah, definitely go down a size or two. the ones i have are 28" waists, and i normally wear 30's. it's comfortably tight, enough they don't fall off my arse, but stretchy enough it doesn't hurt

i just wear rather thick boxers and my boardshorts about usual(except for one pair but since they are thicker the seam at the bottom rips the back of legs raw from running while skimming)and ive never gotton such rash.i got slight irritation once but we were skimboarding for 12 hours for 4 days and the last hour of the last day i got it
