Surf spot

Postby pkbum » Fri Mar 07, 2008 3:34 am

I think many people might get irritated for clicking so much trying to understand and locate that spot. I say get rid of the color(where you have to keep on clicking to get to that spot), and let the zoom in and zoom out do its job on that...

Anybody agree with me?

Yeah, I thought that.

You can use the text links at the bottom of the page, but its difficult to just zoom in on an area.

I found it difficult to specify a spot when adding an area too.

The map has been segmented for a couple of reasons. The main one is that once there are lots of surf spots it would take an age to load if all the points were on the same map. Keeping them segmented keeps the numbers of spots down and the data to a resonable and useable size.

The regions also allow for information to be added at every level and each page which will make the guide more thorough. This gives scope for a visitor to get information about a region in general and not just about a single spot. I think in the future, when lots of information has been added, will make the guide much better.

Having it split up into different sections is good from a search engine perspective. This is not important from a user perspective but will hopefully have the effect of firstly getting more visitors from search engine searches. This increases visitors to the site and forum. Also the more visitors to the region and spot pages the more likely that information will be added.

Ok, so there are the reasons why.
Now that the guide is complete I am not about to completely re-do it. One thing I could do is remove the information pop up that appears when a region colour is clicked. this would reduce the number of clicks to get to a spot by half. It was added so a visitor could identify a region without actually clicking through to it but losing it would not be the end of the world.

Would removing the box be an improvement?

I plan to change the layout a little to increase the size of the map when adding the surf spot. At the moment the size makes it a little

yes, that would be good. It seemed a bit strange to click on a spot and then get asked if I wanted to go to that spot :?

Can it be made so that as you scroll the cursor over the spot the name comes up, but goes straight there when you click it? (Im an internet ignoramus so I dont know how difficult that is)

Top marks generally though. Well done SP! :claps:

I have now removed the popups from the continents and regions pages. Now when you click the region you go straight to the next page.

I have kept the pop up that appears when surf spots are available so visitors can click on different spots to get details before actually clicking through.
Hopefully this improves things on the map - now go add some spots.
