New interesting longboard

Postby Geezer » Thu Jan 18, 2024 10:59 pm

Bought this second hand yesterday. Local shaper, I have a thruster and a twin pin from him in the rack now and both are favorites. Solid glassing, blanks for customs are high quality/density imported foam and based in the bukit, his boards work where I surf.

Anyway, was stoked to see this come up used. The owner used it to get over an injury earlier this year then went back to shorter boards; relatively new condition. The interesting bit is that be took it to a shop I know well and had their team put in futures twin boxes, spacing, angles and cants accounted for a twin setup, not a quad rear placement. He rode it primarily as a twin with keels and said it went well. I plan to ride it mostly as a single, but if it works as a twin then all the more fun.

Besides the extra glass and bennett blank, the big half inch stringer caught my eye. Can’t wait to get it wet.

Nice Geezer!! Ride report? Must be an ideal wet season board?
Thanks for this feedback on BH overall btw. Really interested in his boards, but wasn't sure about the quality of the blanks and glassing there. If I don't go used, I very likely will pull the trigger on a custom.

Hansel customs use top quality high density blanks and glassing is great. Hansel boards that were made fir kuta shops that had a lighting bokt logo are lesser quality and priced as such. I’m a big fan of Bruce; thoughtful guy who gave me some great advice and actually steered me away from a custom since I wasn’t sure what I wanted at the time. Have three of his in the quiver now and they are all favorites.

As far as the ride report it is just as I’d wish for. Shaped for local conditions, paddles well, sits a little lower in the water than a similar sized eps board I have and is better in chop. Different feel with the twinny setup; fast and can hold a backside bottom turn. Good times.

Thanks again for that Geezer! Clears up confusion on logos, as I had seen both in shops on past trips and didn't get the difference. Will get in touch with him then, as I'm torn too between shapes and would greatly appreciate advice.

Meant to ask about the twinny as couldn't get over that mod. Would you run it more now with twins than you originally intended?

Honestly the twin effect is muted in a boa d so long. In a shorter board the difference between a twin and a thruster is apparent. Between a twin and a single in a longboard not so much. It’s quick and has more grip than a single but so far is more of a novelty than anything which is ok too; variety is the spice of life right? Long story shirt, as a single it goes great and has a familiarr feel, as a twin it is just different. A little more drive, a little more stable, a little but harder to turn….all logical effects.
