8 foot 69,2 lite vs 9 foot 70 liter

Postby nervusblue » Mon Dec 05, 2022 3:08 pm

Hey

I´m in a dilemma (kind of), a friend of mine offered me his Venon Zeppelin "Longboard" for a good price, its 8 foot, 24 x 3 volume is 69,2 - I´m still at the beginner's stage (ok. I´m over the whitewash baptism), 177 cm, 75 kg. Actually, I was looking for an 9-foot Longboard NSP, Torq nothing fancy, (I´m not at the point yet to worry about that) something around 72 liters. But the Zeppelin sounds good to me, at least it has almost the same Volume, ok. it has a pintail and a little bit more rocker than the NSP Torq - but ist has still a lot of volume in the nose, looks like a shrunken longboard to me, so definitely no funboard. So my question is, should I go for the length and buy a 9 to 9.2 footer with a little more volume or should I try the zeppelin?
Thanks

David

I am not the board person but you can always keep it for later. I imagine the zeppelin will be harder to catch a wave with so I guess it depends on how much problems you have catching a wave on a longer board. What have you used so far?
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

24” is really wide; for your size just to sit on the board will be uncomfortable, won’t fit under your arm, harder to turn, will push more water…. more rocker and pin tail are also no-go’s for a newbie. Forget liters at this point as well; 3ft above your head is the go. NSP is a great learning board; functional and durable. I wouldn’t look past that.

Thanks, Guys, I won´t buy it, it´s cheap but not dirty cheap and 24 is probably too wide for me, I should stick to a longer board without pin tail, like the classic nsp longboard shape. My learning board in south Africa had 72 liters. I don´t like the idea of more volume because it gets really difficult to do a proper turtle roll, to navigate through the white water,I once had a tanker 9.6 from a friend over 80 liters, heavy glassing - it wasn´t fun, maybe it´s fun in 0,5 foot or smaller. But anyhow, thanks for your advice - it was helpful as always in this forum
