water logged

Does anyone know how you can tell when you've got all the water out of your water logged board?

It's an epoxy board full of dings and dents and has been letting in water for a while now. I heard stuff like you can put cling film over the dings to see if there is condensation or literally suck out the water.

I've had the board in the kitchen for a week now near the radiator, but have no clue if there is still water in it.

Any ideas?

For water to come out of an eps foam board the hole in the glass needs to be on the ver bottom position of the board when it’s stored to let the water out. It flows through the blank by gravity and will go to the lowest point on the board. If there isn’t a hole in the lowest point then water won’t run out. If the temperature has been warm and the ding is at the lowest point of the board as you are storing it then 2 weeks should be good

With multiple holes and a saturated blank it would likely take longer

It's sat near the radiator and been in the sun [for what it's worth in the UK] for a couple of weeks now , so fingers crossed!

If you seal it up just make sure you don't let it sit in the sun again or it might delaminate if there is still water in it. I have had many dings on eps boards and 2 weeks in my room seems good to go but I live in Hawaii and my room often reaches the 80's or 90's during the day if it's sunny. When I send to get repairs they wait 2 weeks also. A not so good test is to suck on the ding and if you get water then for sure it's not long enough but if nothing it may be the water pooled somewhere else.

1) What type of "epoxy" board ? Is it a molded-epoxy ? Traditionally glassed but with eps blank /epoxy resin ?

2) Did you increase the hole, for water to escape ?

3) If there's an exit / exhaust shouldn't there be a inlet also ?

4) When water heats up and turns to vapor, does vapor rise or go down ?

This might seem as a weird way, but You just suck on the opening you’ll draw water if still wet.

However, when I ding an epoxy I usually just leave it for a few weeks before trying to fix it

1. it's a Walden Mega Magic, so Traditionally glassed but with eps blank /epoxy resin I believe.
2. A little bit, there was water coming out of it.
3. Luckily it's full of dings and there is a also a hole on the opposite edge.
3. Ah yes - good ol' chemistry! It rises, so : some water should drip out of the bottom [which is has] and some warmer water evaporate through the hole in the top...hopefully!

Eps foam is like a sponge with fine holes. Water goes very easily through it. I have heard of people cutting holes just to drain a blank that was saturated. I know some ding guys hook up suction to the blank to get the water out. It's light and strong but loves water. The closed cell version (Styrofoam) doesn't absorb water except on the exposed surface but is difficult to shape. so fix your board before it becomes water logged
