2+1 setup on 9’6 board

Postby Dadams » Sun Dec 13, 2020 4:30 pm

Recently purchased a 9’6” epoxy board and I have been using a 9.25 flex fin but looking to try out a 2 +1 setup. I am a casual surfer just cruising down the line and could use the least amount of drag possible but still have stability. Any advice on size of center fin as well as the size of the side bites?

I would go with the Greenough 4A. Versatile fin with wide base and flex tip.

Could you explains the reasons "WHY" you want to try a 2+1 set up ? What's wrong with riding it currently as is with a single fin ? If you're just cruising and not making sharp turns and utilize more of a traditional drop-knee cutback, I see not reason to go to 2+1.

This is my first longboard that has a 2+1 option. So I was wanting to experiment with it out and see if there was any noticeable difference. That’s why wanted to know specific heights for both types of fins. I don’t want to buy the wrong ones. I know single fin is more traditional, and I like it. Just want to give the 2+1 a try.

I don't longboard much, but I had 2 fins, a 10" rake and a 9"cutaway, and love the cutaway for the maneuverability. Also, I don't use the sidebites unless in bigger surf, but when I do I go with GX sides instead of GL, a little more bite but doesn't seem to paddle any slower. But for me I am sold on cutaway fins.
