Single Fin error?

Postby Hugo » Fri Sep 02, 2016 4:14 pm

Hey guys,

I got a new question for all of you :P

So, I bought a new Fin, and I want to use it on may 7'7 single fin board BUT, when I tried to put the fin in the FCS box I couldn't do it, at least not perfectly.
I mean, the first part of the fin, with that mini metal thing, goes in all the way but, when I try to rotate the fin to put the screw in it and attach it, it seems the fin will not go all the way and I need to push it down, forcing the fin to it's place. If I don't, it stays 1 or 2cms from the perfect fit.

The fin enters normally on my 9'4 longboard. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?? It's a 10'25 The salty merchants fin.

Thanks .

About your problem, sometimes I've seen differences in American, Australian and Chinese made center boxes.

BUT the bigger question is .............Why in the world are you using a 10.25" fin on a 7'7" board ?

Just wanted to try it out ... not "using"... but I'm thinking of buying a new fin to the 7'7 board, and tried the 10'25 before I bought it.

That is way over finned, but exactly what Waikikikichan said, also a poorly set box can be warped at the top edge in the middle , sometime a poorer set up will come by the box being sanded to match the rocker of the board.

No force in getting it in or out , damage control!

I have an FCS fluid dolphin 8' that I use with the board and it fits just fine. Should I assume that australian fins will not fit the box?? I fear that if I buy a new fin (salty merchants fin) it will not fit :( any advices on a new fin ?? (i want a flex fin btw)

Hugo, different boards and different fins are marginally different....depends on how the box was installed....maybe they pinched it a little in the middle...sometimes a given fin on a given board is a little loose, another fin on the same board fits or might be a little tight.....I put tape on loose fins before installing to shim the fin to make a tight fit....if it is already a tight fit then all the better and I hold the fin with a towel in one hand and hit the back of my hand with my other hand to bang the fin into the box (do the opposite for stuck single fins and futures as well....works like a charm).

I remember the board that you are talking about....you put pics up when you got it....a real beauty. I have a 7'8" in similar dimensions and use a greenough 4a 8.5" in solid overhead surf, greenough 4a 7.5" in head high or less. Those two fins seem to work well....I use a 9" and 9.75" 4a on my 9'2" longboard with the same stipulations. I really like that fin BTW :).
