the new shred sled (and the old one)

so i finally got a new board. being a surf instructor i can take out our softtop/bic longboards we use for lessons and rentals whenever, so i never really needed my own small surf board. but i got sick of them and broke down and got a retro fish. i've been contemplating one for a while now and finally just picked one up. it's a chinese made board, but the local shaper at the shop i bought it from toured the factory and all. part of me feels guilty buying a chinese board, but most of me could care less. the worst part was the day after, and another 2 weeks later surf went completely dead flat. finally started getting something yesterday. it's a blast. yesterday was waist-ish, mushburgers, and onshore slop, but it was something. today it cleaned up a bit. definitely like it a lot. probably getting a new shortboard for the fall/winter surf later this week.

bumping this up cause it's not worth it to make a new thread. i replaced the knackered old beveridge board today. picked up a pat mulhern shaped wrv. 6'2"x19" (i think, the resin art is over the dim's)x2 3/8". haven't taken it out yet, going to tomorrow. it's a bit wider and thicker than the old one, so i figure it'll be a bit easier, if not the same, to ride and paddle as the old one

OP; nice board.. Looks like fun. :D Are you still enjoying the board?

twerked; wow, that's some cool art actually. I really like that. Let us know how it goes out there. How you like it. Good luck. Enjoy the new stick. :D

After realization edit: Ohhhh... same person bumping his own thread with another board. Damn, I wasn't as awake this morning as I felt.

the fish is a blast, real quick. 2 days ago we got some fun swell from a nor'easter that went through. it was chest-head, with light onshore winds so it was a bit mushy. i took the fish out then, because i hadn't picked up the new one yet. today i was gonna take the shortboard out but it was still pretty mushy by the time i got out. this morning was apparently glassy and perfection. too bad i had to work. gonna go out early tomorrow when it's supposed to be offshore and see how the new one goes. hopefully there's some leftovers still.

i wasn't sure about the second one, it seemed pretty thin and narrow when i was looking at it. but after looking at the dim's of my old one, i realised i'd probably be okay with it. the art i'm guessing was done by my boss's neighbor, dave rohde. he glasses for wrv, i'm not sure if anyone else does, but it's most likely he did it. i'll let yall know how tomorrow goes

edit: i guess i'll just post this as well. i got it earlier in the summer for free. it was a thank you for bringing a grill and meat to the beach bbbq for international surfing day

the wrv board is nice. much different than the old one, and kind of getting used to it. i haven't really been out that much on shortboards, so it's still a bit of a learning process. it almost feels easier to paddle than the fish, oddly enough. probably gonna take the fish out again tomorrow because it's back down to typical small scale summer surf

Epoxy won't do too much damage to you... only if you actually go around sniffing it. (lol) Just wear a fume mask, use proper ventilation, and a little bit of common sense. Riding a board you have shaped youself may be one of the coolest feelings in the world.
