Can get super good with the right conditions. First off there is no surf ever on low tide. The tide change here can get up to 12ft difference. The best is with an incoming tide, usually it solidly starts about 2 to 2 1/2 hours, maybe 3 before high tide. The waves tend to break both ways depending on swell. The best is during hurricane season, it can see some solid swell and hold some good size. Best winds are offshore, but doesn't happen too often. The best spot is when you reach the end of the path to the beach, walk down to the right and you can see a bunch of rocks against the shoreline. From there look out and you'll notice the waves break out a little farther. That spot right in front of the rocks can give you some awesome long rides. In my opinion this spot with a good swell can be pretty awesome.
Drive down burkes beach road, take the 2 minute path down to beach and boom, time to hit the waves.
tons of hotels on the small 10 mile long island in general.
parking is free but can be get super crowded in summer, fall. Tend to have to park on street or by the park next to the road.
Fuel station is the best. its a few miles south of burkes on new orleans road.
Fuel Station
if theres no waves, hit one of the many beach bars and chill out. come nighttime the island is nothing but a party.
