General Description

Has waves almost every day of the year, even outside of surf season (meaning from March to October), although the definitions of "wave" varies from 10 foot surge to half a foot ripple. The two days leading up to and just after a full moon seem to be the best.

General Info

How to get there

Coming from Enterprise Coast Beach (AKA "Miami" Beach), continue along the coast (with the sea on your right) until you come to a right turn called Seaside Drive. Turning through Seaside Drive, you will pass Freights (on the right) in the nook of the first left chicane. Follow the road to the right (about an eighth of a mile, over about four speed bumps) and you'll come to a pink house on the right, opposite a left turn called South Point Drive. There's a small path and grassy knoll on the right leading to the reef. You can enter the water via the steps in the landing on the right (you'll have to paddle farther to get to the sweet spot), or preferably somewhere along the rocky path on the left. DO NOT try to exit via the steps on a rough day, the current will sweep you out towards Freights if you miss it slightly (if you're lucky) or it will smash you and your board into the sharp rocks on the edge of the water. You'll have to paddle far out, then back left to find a safe exit, especially difficult if you're tired.

Where to Stay

Barbados! Small country. You can get here in under an hour by car, no matter where you stay.

Access & Parking Info / Cost

Parking is along the side of the road. Please don't block anyone's driveway. Cost is free!

Equipment Hire

Nope.

Surf Schools

Several operate at nearby Freights throughout the day. South Point is more of an intermediate location. Check out (in alphabetical order) Boosy's Surf School (http://www.boosyssurfschool.com), Burkie's Surf School (http://www.surfbarbados.net) and Zed's Surfing Adventures (http://www.zedssurftravel.com). (Zed's operates from Surfer's Point, a different but close location, but they do bring folks to South Point as well).

When its Flat?

Bring a longboard and practice riding small waves. It's almost never completely flat, and very occasionally, Freights can be bigger (the current sweeps around the bottom of the island and hits South Point first, so this is unusual, but it has happened).
