Awesome right hand point break that works from small to good solid size. The Surf Club Guesthouse is right in front of the break and becuase of the local surfing management plans there are strict limitations on the number of visiting surfers that can surf on any day in the whole region. with 9 breaks around it keeps it empty and ALL TIME!!
it is definitely worth heading to and the cost is fantastic value
please note though that you MUST prearrange accommodation and cannot just turn up. The surf season is from Oct to Apr
Fly into Port Moresby, get a connecting domestic flight to Madang where you will be transferred to the Guesthouse Resort which is about a 2 hour scenic drive and you end up in themost picturesque place, it is awesome. The local people, the culture, the hospitality and the vibe is excellent. Everything is Melanesian and so happens at the leisurely pace but it is definitely worth the trip
Tupira Surf Club - www.tupirasurfclub.com
Access is easy and the Surf Club has banana boats to transfer guests to the other local breaks. The costs at Tupira Surf Club are fantastic from about A$600 per person for 7 nights accommodaiton, 3 meals a day, return airport transfers and all local fees and taxes.
There is stuff to hire for outside surfing time like bikes and traditional canoes
Yes, Walkin' On Water Surf School from Australia runs surf camps and coaching using the National PNG Surf Coach who is based at Tupira
Plenty to do - bike riding, fishing, traditional canoe paddling, hiking and walking around the area, visiting the local villages, going with the locals to climb coconut trees, snorkelling - there is heaps to do. or you can just sit and have a drink and watch things happen - it is defintiely a place to head to
