Angelo Lozano Will Attack el Gringo

After his tour around Europe, Angelo Lozano is getting ready to challenge “El Gringo”. One of the heaviest waves in Latin America located in Arica (north of Chile) where a stop of the WQS and the ALAS tour will be carried out from June 2-7, the “Rusty Arica Pro Challenge”. The event will give U$S 50.000,00 in prize money and it will have a 3-stars category for the QS and 6-stars Prime stars for the ALAS.

“After the two WQS that I’ve made in Europe I’ve improved my ranking from the 280 place to the 174, so it was good to go there. My next trip will be in a week for the WQS 3-stars and ALAS 6-stars at The Gringo, Chile. After that I’m thinking of going to surf to the north of Peru, we’ll see”, said Lozano to Surfpress.

El Gringo is one of the most impressive waves of the Pacific, the ASP World Tour noticed it when they visited the Alacrán island in 2007. Angelo has travelled several days before the competition to test the wave where the event will take place. Talking to Surfpress, Lozano showed pretty excited with the idea of riding in El Gringo. He emphasized that he is willing to defy that wave that bothered so much the world surfing elite in 2007.

“The idea is to ride a few waves before the contest, I know this is a quick wave and that it changes constantly….I think that the goofys will have an advantage dropping El Gringo…Nevertheless, the ocean is unpredictable and you have to do your best when you compete in such an impressive wave”.

Angelo’s good results caught the attention of his country’s media. That’s why “Estadio TV”, a program from the sports news channel 501 of Sky Sports, made him a large interview.
 

During the interview, Angelo went through his beginnings, his first competitions, he spoke about the Mexican waves and he also analyzed the importance of surfing in the culture of his dear Puerto Escondido.

Ángelo Lozano Atacará El Gringo

Luego de girar por territorio europeo Ángelo Lozano se prepara para desafiar “El Gringo”, temida ola ubicada en Arica (norte de Chile) y que recibirá al tour WQS y al circuito ALAS del 2 al 7 de junio en el marco del “Rusty Arica Pro Challenge”. El evento repartirá U$S 50.000,00 en premios y tendrá categoría 3 estrellas para el QS y 6 estrellas Prime para el ALAS.

“Después de los dos WQS que hice en Europa mejoré mi ranking al número 174, antes de ir a Europa me parece que estaba en el puesto 280, así que fue bueno ir para allá. Mi próximo viaje será en una semana al próximo WQS 3 estrellas y ALAS 6 estrellas en el Gringo, Chile. Después veré si voy a surfear el norte de Perú quizás”, expresó Lozano a Surfpress.

El Gringo es una de las olas más temidas del Pacífico, el WCT dio cuenta de eso cuando pasó por la ex isla Alacrán en 2007, Ángelo llegó con varios días de anticipación para testear la ola donde se desarrollará el evento. En charla con Surfpress, Lozano se mostró entusiasmado con la idea de surfear en El Gringo, y enfatizó sus ganas de desafiar esa izquierda que puso en jaque a la elite del surfing mundial en el 2007.

“La idea es surfear varias olas antes del contest, tengo entendido que es una ola rápida y que muta constantemente… Creo que los goofys tendremos un plus a la hora de dropear El Gringo… De todas formas el mar es algo impredecible y hay que estar al 100% de las habilidades de uno al momento de competir en una ola tan respetada como esta”.Ángelo En La Tv Mexicana

Los buenos resultados de Ángelo en competencia tuvieron eco en los principales medios de su país, y así lo demostró una extensa entrevista que le realizaron al charger de Puerto Escondido en “Estadio TV”, noticiero deportivo del canal 501 de Sky Sports.

Durante la entrevista, Ángelo repasó sus inicios, sus primeras competencias, habló de las olas mexicanas y realizó un análisis de la importancia del surf en la cultura de playa de su querido Puerto Escondido.
