The Saltrock Open is counting down to blast off and it can’t come quickly enough for the stars of UK surfing.
The full international entry list for this years contest guarantees an exciting and eventful first stop on the tour. This is the highest standard of entries for any UK Pro Tour event to date.
Winners from all last years events will be entering which also include: Russell Winter, Glen Hall, Sam Lamiroy, Alan Stokes, Reubin Pearce and Aerial specialist Reubyn Ash. Event entries have also been received from Holland, S Africa, Australia and Belgium. 2009 English Champion Johnny Fryer from The Isle Of Wight will be eager to make his mark and challenge the 2008 Tour winner, South Africa’s Reubin Pearce who missed The Saltrock Open last year. No doubt this will also be hotly contested by Mark Harris who took the lead at Croyde last year and will be hoping for a chance to reclaim the event again in 2009.
With The Saltrock Open scheduled later on in the year than usual, it is hoped that the long Whitsun weekend will provide crowds enjoying the break to see some truly exceptional talent as the best of British surfing steps up to demonstrate just what all the excitement is about. Charts are looking good with a forecast of 4 – 9ft surf for the weekend. Christian Surfers will be onsite providing food for the competitors and raising awareness of Surf Relief UK and their mission to help disadvantaged and disabled children enjoy surfing. Kingofwatersports.com will be providing a prize for the highest scoring waves of men and women for the duration of the event. Relentless Energy drink will also continue their support of the event by providing £250 for the surfer who performs the biggest Aerial, last year won by Reubyn Ash of Bude

This year’s contest will be celebrated on Saturday night with music and dancing in The Thatch Barn Inn with a 10% discount on food for all competitors and officials.
