Parko and Occy hitting New Zealand

Corona, major sponsor of Surfing New Zealand and the Corona Crown Series, is bringing Joel Parkinson (Aus) and Mark Occhilupo (Aus) to New Zealand in the last week of May.

“Parko” will arrive with a world ranking of number one after winning the first two events on the 2009 World Tour. The last person to win these events consecutively was 9 times world champion Kelly Slater. Parko is currently in Tahiti where he is contesting the Billabong Pro at Teahupoo before coming to New Zealand.

Occy is a living legend in the surfing world. His 1999 world title was one of the all time sporting comebacks. The compact goofy footer remains a people’s hero and a surfer of incredible natural talent.

Having both visited New Zealand in the past, local surf conditions have not always proved kind to Parko and Occy. Corona is set on rectifying this by taking the boys to where the waves are pumping.

Between Wednesday May 27th and Saturday May 30th two locations will be selected based on surf quality. Possible destinations include Gisborne, Taranaki, Raglan, Mount Maunganui, Coromandel and Piha. As well as providing a free-surfing exhibition at each spot, Parko and Occy will sign autographs from the beach.
