The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans, Europe's biggest action sports & music festival today confirms its 5 Star World Qualifying Series (WQS) surfing event and with a purse of $120,000 becomes the highest prize fund in English surfing history.

The 5 Star WQS surf event is the backbone of the Relentless Boardmasters and the focus of the entire event. The event offers the only chance to view the Worlds best surfers on English shores as they battle to qualify for the World Championship Tour (WCT). Over 130 off the most talented athletes in the surf world will arrive in Newquay, Cornwall on Tuesday 4th August, to compete for the valuable qualifying points and increased prize money. The event takes place over six days with the final planned for Sunday 9th August.

While the WQS event is the main attraction it is not the only surf event taking place. Title sponsors Relentless last year introduced a new competition format in the shape of the Relentless Aerial Assault which demonstrates the most radical and progressive nature of surfing. The Relentless Aerial Assault, confirmed for 2009, uses a jet ski to tow surfers into waves at speeds impossible to generate using man power alone. This extra speed allows surfers to perform manoeuvres that far exceed normal surfing in terms of power and most excitingly air. Imagine flips and spins 6-10 feet above the lip of the wave before perfect landings and surfing away.

Shortened this year to 5 days the rest of the event will commence 5th August at the Fistral Beach Site with the opening party at the now famous Beach Sessions. Elsewhere Vans are shaking up the beach area. The Vert ramp is back and will host Skateboarding and BMX competitions, featuring riders from Europe and beyond in what are the highest standard events in the UK. Keep watching this space for more Vans news and activites taking place at the event.

Fistral also offers the trade village and of course the Relentless Beach Bar serving up chilled drinks and looking over all the action on and around the beach. As evening sets in the bar rearranges itself into one of the West countries most electric live music venues in the shape of the aforementioned Relentless Beach Sessions.

Moving 1 mile down the coast the second site on the cliffs at Watergate Bay hosts the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans Music Festival featuring the best in live music. Headlining the festival this year are The Streets, Cypress Hill, The Noisettes and The Ghost of a Thousand.

The final event of the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans is the Vans Newquay Park Pro. Now in its 5th year the Vans Park Pro, taking place at Wooden Waves skate park has attracted the best skateboarders from around the uk to compete in what is one of the highlights in the skate calendar.

The Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans 2009 is the most complete event for lovers of music, surf and action sports. With 3 sites across Newquay offering surf, skate, bmx, daily live

music acts and a music festival for 12,500 people the Relentless Boardmasters in association with Vans 2009 will be the highlight of the UK summer.
