BELLS BEACH, Victoria (Sunday, April 12, 2009) – Beautiful, clean three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves are on offer this morning at Bells Beach prompting event organizers to call the final day of the Rip Curl Women’s Pro presented by Ford New Fiesta on, starting at 8am.
The second stop on the 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Rip Curl Women’s Pro will be a crucial point in this year’s season and today’s remaining eight surfers will put on their game faces in hopes of ringing the bell by day’s end.
Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 21, reigning two-time ASP Women’s World Champion and two-time defending winner of the Rip Curl Women’s Pro, will put in her bid for a third consecutive Bells title today, starting out against rookie Paige Hareb (NZL), 18, in Quarterfinal 2.
“We’re fortunate to have some good-looking swell and excellent winds today and we’ll be running the final day of the women with the men on standby for an 11am call,” Damien Hardmen, Rip Curl Pro Contest Director, said. “We’ll get the Quarterfinals underway starting at 8am.”
Kicking off today’s action will be the rookie Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 18, up against the veteran Jacqueline Silva (BRA), 29, for Quarterfinal 1.
