Billabong’s Courtney Conlogue will be heading back from the ISA World Games in Ecuador donning a hefty hunk of silver around her neck as the Santa Ana native took home a second-place finish in the Under-18 Girls division.
Overall, Courtney’s silver-medal finish proved to be the biggest accomplishment for the USA Surf Team who finished a very respectable fourth in the collective rankings.
"Pretty stoked to get the Silver," Conlogue said. "Going into the heat, I was just trying to stay as relaxed as I could, and I think it just came down to who got the best waves out there. Going into this, I hadn't had a Silver since Tahiti, but it would have been nice to get Gold, for sure.
Held in the shoulder- to head-high rippable lefts of La FAE, Courtney shined throughout the event on her backhand, dismantling the competition with a steady drip of backhand wafts and top-to-bottom surfing. In the final, Courtney was surfing spot on, but fell short to a very in form Tyler Wright of Australia.
In the past few years, Courtney’s been on a competitive rampage, winning just about everything in sight. With four consecutive Conferences titles, a Regional title, and a huge win at Nationals, this Silver medal will make a nice addition to her treasure chest.
“Coming into this event, I didn't know what to expect,” said Courtney, “but I'm going home happy.”
