Swatch Girls Pro France 2012 Starts Today

The world's finest women surfers have been getting last minute practice at the contest venue at the south of Les Bourdaines beach, Seignosse. The sandbar has been holding some quality peaks throughout the last few days of pre event practice, with lefts and rights often best around the high water mark offering the girls a chance to fine tune their equipment and repertoires in the Landes of early summer sunshine.

With so much top surf talent in town and some great looking waves at the venue, excitement and anticipation is building towards the first call of the event, 7am local time, today, Wednesday 30th May.

Forecast For The Week

The WNW swell currently in the water looks like continuing throughout the week, staying around the 3ft (head-high) range with slight drops and pulses around this height until a building forecast for the weekend. Conditions look good for the week, with light variable winds forecast typical for the season, with offshore and glassy conditions in the mornings and likely seabreezes to kick in from around midday.

With a jump in both period and height forecast for Saturday, at this stage that looks like being the biggest day in the competition window, and assuming conditions stay favourable, the best chance of seeing some of the Landes famous barrels. The signing sessions kicks off a full weekend of après surf fun that includes the Nightsurf Extravanganza (01/06 from 21h30, Prevent Beach, Capbreton), Please Call Me Madame and Tatianas concerts (02/06 from 22h00, El Bodegon, Capbreton) and the Sandblast Closing Party at a secret location (03/06). The first 100 members of the public to come to the Swatch Store Hossegor from the start of the event can claim exclusive passes to this VIP soiree.
