Courtney Conlogue Wins the 2012 Telstra Aware Pro

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Monday, March 26, 2012) - Courtney Conlogue (Santa Ana, CA), 19, has taken out her second consecutive ASP 6-Star Women's Telstra Drug Aware Pro Title, defeating ASP World Tour rookie Malia Manuel (Kauai, HI), 18, after a week of amazing waves delivered at Margaret River.

Conlogue was dominant on the final day of Telstra Drug Aware Pro competition, topping Australians Kirby Wright (Lennox, AUS) and Rebecca Woods (Copacabana, AUS), 27, with convincing victories and continued to dominate in the final over Manuel, defeating the Hawaiian by a score of 16.23 to 11.07 (both scores out of 20).

"I was trying not to think about going back-to-back too much because I didn't want to put pressure on myself," Conlogue said. "I'm stoked to have gotten two in a row. This place taught me a lot last year and the years before. The first time I came here I lost in the second round and it was quite an embarrassing heat. Going from that to what I've done now feels great, and each year I come back I feel like I get to know the waves better and better. Now I'm looking forward to going to Bells because this place is great training for down there."

The Californian finished equal 5th at the ASP World Title season opening Roxy Pro Gold Coast and will be competing at the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford Fiesta from April 3 through 9, 2011.

While Conlogue found success in Western Australia, fellow Californian Taylor Jensen (Carlsbad, CA), 28, maintained his winning form in Kingscilff, New South Wales at the ASP LQS 3-Star Australian Longboard Surfing Open presented by Surftech.

The reigning ASP World Longboard Champion held off fellow elite ASP WLT campaigner Harley Ingleby (Emerald Waters, AUS), 28, with a 16.26 (out of 20) heat total despite a valiant effort from Ingleby, further asserting his dominant hot-streak among the world's top longboarding talent.

"You had to go for anything that looked like it might wall up and that first one walled up on the inside for me and halfway through the heat I could see that second one would wall up so I was happy to get those two in," Jensen said. "But I wanted to put a better heat score together to feel a bit safer as Harley has come back against me before late in the heat and locked in a winning score so I would have liked a better back-up. I was confident nothing was going to come through and offer the mid-8 score he needed on the inside so I sat out back to make sure if the bomb came through I had it protected."

Jennifer Smith (San Diego, CA), 26, was also successful in the women's ASP LQS division, finishing runner-up to eventual event winner Chelsea Williams (AUS).

The first 2012 ASP Men's Star event will unfold this week at Huntington Beach, with the Vans Pier Classic presented by Jack's Surfboards running from March 28 through April 1.
