Saltrock Open Go for this weekend

With up to 4 / 5 ft swell predicted for the coming weekend The Saltrock Open has been called on.

With huge interest in this year's competition, the UKPST have announced exceptionally strong fields across all categories and are saying the likelihood is that there will be record entries in all divisions.

Nike 6.0 is proud to announce that the Saltrock Open will host the official trials for the Nike 6.0 Night Surf.

The top 16 qualifiers in the Men's Open division will join 16 invited surfers for the Nike 6.0 Night Surf on the 8 - 9th of July which will hold the biggest prize purse on the UK Tour this year. Trails will be held for all other categories.

The Night Surf will also host the UK leg of the Nike 6.0 Cash For Tricks, a European series that rewards progressive and innovative surfing.

'I can't express strongly enough the importance of The Saltrock Open to the tour this year,' says UKPST Director Dave Reed. 'It's vital to perform well in the Saltrock Open to qualify for the Nike Nightsurf, which will in turn be a huge boost towards qualification for the Relentless Evolutionary Series."

The importance of this year's event has not gone unnoticed and lots of huge names in the surfing world are already on their way to Croyde. Among them are Alan Stokes, Micah Lester, Reuben Pearce, Mark Harris and last year's winner Russell Winter, and several big names are travelling from overseas to take part in the competition including Gordon Fontaine from France.

All local hopes will be pinned on the 2 popular wildcard entries from Croyde Surf Club, Scott Rannochan and Charley Charlesworth. CSC is one of the biggest surf clubs in the UK with an extremely loyal and talented group of members - Scott and Charley are both awesome surfers and with wildcards through the round of 32 an upset could definitely be on the cards.

And best of all it's all absolutely free to come along and watch! Croyde is the perfect spot to host The Saltrock Open as it's one of the best beach breaks in the country and can produce top quality barreling waves at low tide. The contest venue at Downend Point is perfectly positioned and provides plenty of perfect viewing spots for everyone to see the surfers at their best.
