The Animal Newquay Open, the final of this year's UK Pro Surf Tour will once again be returning to Fistral Beach on the 13th and 14th November. The competition is the last event of the year on the female circuit and will set the crown for the Women's 2010 UK Pro Surf Tour Champion.
This event is the most anticipated on the circuit as it rounds up some of best surfers from the UK and is the final stop on the UK Pro Surf Tour, inevitably turning out to be the title decider.
The current favourite to win the Women's Division and leading in the rankings is previous champion Gwen Spurlock. This year it has been close in the women's division and Gwen has seen strong competition from a previous Tour champ and current Irish Champion Nicole Morgan who has been killing it throughout. Another surfer to watch out for is close friend of Gwen and the current Welsh Champion Beth Mason. With three National female champs competing for the title it will be a tight event and definitely not one to miss.
A massive spanner could be thrown into the works from Animal rider Easkey Britton. Usually preferring to concentrate on Filming with the only female section in Waveriders, the internationally acclaimed surf film, and surf photography she has decided this year to take part in the Open. This will see her surfing in her only event of the year. Easkey previously won this event in her first year of competing where she showed off her skills and demonstrated a high surfing ability to all the judges. Hopefully new Animal Team rider Hannah Harding will have some of the luck of the Irish as this will be her first Open.
Animal board shorts, animal t shirts and animal wetsuits all available in store.
The UK Pro Surf Tour hosts the only professional women's division in the UK so this is definitely the one the girls want to win on the surfing circuit. Other riders to watch out for are up and coming youngsters, who include Australia's Raine Jackson, Gabby Rowe, Jo Dennison and Lucy Campbell.
