I would appreciate your help in finding out where the problem lies. If those who are experiencing problems could send me some info next time you cannot connect to the site it would be really helpful.
I'll outline a few steps to obtain the info I need - if you are having intermittent problems then save this info to your computer somewhere.

Ok, let us begin.

1. Note down the time you are trying to access the site and the location. Also what error you are getting. Do you get a site not found error or does it just time out without the site loading. (With this info I can see if the site was very busy or not at the time)

2. Send me some ip details - go through the following steps.

Click Start
Click Run (this should pop up the run window)

Image

Type cmd into the box and press ENTER. This should pop up another window

Image

Into this window type
ipconfig /all
and press ENTER

A list of information should scroll down the screen. There should be an entry that says "DNS Servers ........... xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

In the same window type
nslookup surfing-waves.com xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where the xxx. is the entry following the DNS Servers
Press ENTER.
You should have something like this >

Image

Next in the window type
tracert surfing-waves.com
and press ENTER

After 20/30 seconds you should see Trace Complete.

Next Right Click in the window and click Select All
Press ENTER

This has copied the information I need. Now you can send it to me either by email or PM - Don't paste it here.

I really appreciate any help with this - the sooner things are running smoothly the better for everyone.
Thanks

 I didn't think things were this bad. Not being able to get at all.
I really need people who go throught problems getting on to send the information requested above. This is the only way I will be able to isolate where the problem is and get it fixed.
I go to the hosts and say there are problems with people connecting and they will say everything looks ok, the site was up all the time.

Phil (and anyone else having problems), I really need the info detailed above to be able to sort this problem, without it I don't know where to start looking.
Can you get on the site using the url I gave you when you cannot get on using the normal url?
Can you get onto the main site or is it just the forum?

Something seems to have been done last night and from what I can see performance is much better. Hopefully everyone should see a bit of improvement with forum speed.

IdRatherBeSurfing, SDCali & anyone else still having problems - next time it happens can you do three things.
1. Try to connect to the main site not the forum https://surfing-waves.com
2. Try to connect to http://85.234.143.164/~surfingw/index.php
3. Get the connection details as outlined earlier in this post. Save a copy of what to do on your computer so you have the details when you cannot connect.

Let me know the time that you tried to connect.

Your help is really appreciated.

Tried #1, didn't work, but switched browsers and then it worked fine. It's been happening on and off.

If it is just Surfing Waves that you have this problem with then it is something with the site set up. Next time try 1 & 2 in the same browser.

SP... I cant get on the site at all when im at work. No problem with other sites, just cant get on this one. Tried putting the address in, and it redirects me to a Google sponsored ''sorry, cant find it but maybe you want....'' or a Google page showing all the different sections of the site (clicking on them doesnt work either). Going in through history doesnt work, neither does clearing cookies and temp files.
