Hi, I was just wondering how long you guys spend in the water in one session, I went surfing yesterday, don't get down that often so I made the most of it and spent 5 hour in the water, had a really good day, but towards the end my arms and shoulders just lost all strength, and I would class myself as very fit, is 5 hours too long ?

You could be the fittest guy in the world, but the only thing that properly exercises surf muscles... is surfing. So it'll take a while to get the muscles used to it.

Is five hours too long? Some people go in for an hour and really charge, some people stay in all day... depends on yourself, the surf, and the session. But you ought to be aching after five hours, yes.

I'm usually in there for 4 or 5 hours; I'd be in more if it wasn't for my pussy mates dragging me out because they're bored

Come 4 or 5 hours, I don't have the energy to do anything but lay there making a feeble effort at paddling and trying to stand up lol

If i have all day to surf i would normally do three 2hr sessions.

If not then as long as time allows.

if i had the whole day, like Northswell said, i'd do a couple of sessions, when i go on holiday, i go in the morning, afternoon and evening, this way i have time to recover which means i can surf better each time, rather than doing a full 5 hours in one

As long as I can keep moving. Break halfway through, chill, then back in for a bit. The beach is about an hour and a half drive, so I try and spend as long as I can in the water each time.

I usually stay in for 2-3 hours. Once i know im done is when i cant lift my arms..or when the waves die down.

usually about 2 sessions of 90 minutes of charging sometimes 3 in the summer. In the dead of winter i probably have one session 2-3 hours long depending sometimes 2 depending.

actually everything depends on the quality of surf

Tend to go for 2 hours at a time - depending on how I'm feeling, how cold it is, etc.

Normally surf all day (seeing as I only get to surf when I'm not working, ie only a couple of times a month) - so that's on average 6-8 hours per day.....

usually 2-3 sessions of 2-3 hours each. last session of three would usually last as long as my arms.

About an hour at the moment for me, but that's because it's bloody cold.

In summer, 2 or 3 hours, usually because the tide changes and the waves drop off, then another couple of hours if the tides are right later.

Managed 6 hours of hard out snowboarding today though.
